The Health clearance certificate is a certificate that is required from healthcare workers new to the NHS, healthcare workers moving to a post or training that involves EPP (exposure-prone procedure such as dental treatments) as an essential document to be able to submit your PCSE application to be included in the performer list.
This is not to prevent those infected with blood-borne viruses from working in the NHS, but rather to restrict them from working in those clinical areas where their infection may pose a risk to patients in their care.
This is consistent with existing policy, which imposes restrictions on the working practices of those healthcare workers who are known to be infectious carriers of HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
It is recommended that the measures proposed in this guidance are implemented as soon as is reasonably practicable. Ideally, your practice is supposed to give you guidance on where to get it as each area has different centres that provide this service.
